Science and Engineering
The focus for Marking Period 1 is Physical Science and Engineering and Technology.
Students:
will create a working definition of matter.
will explore properties of different materials in order to learn how to identify those materials in order to learn how to identify those materials based on their properties.
will be guided through the components of a well-designed investigation to identify physical properties of similar substances. Knowing the unique physical properties of a substance will be used to identify its presence in an unknown mixture in a later lesson.
will explore how the observable physical properties of a substance can change, and the substance may be put back into its original form. Students also observe that physical properties of the same substance change in a way that shows conservation of matter, but the substance cannot be put back together into its original form.
