In the first half of this second quarter, students  will be able to identify electromagnetic waves as wave energy that can travel through space without a medium.

Students will learn about transmitters and receivers, and how they are used to send or receive information.

They will
research how information is transmitted over long distances for devices that are in everyday life such as  GPS, cell phones, etc.

During these lessons, students will acquire and use vocabulary to describe various wave properties and use wave models to describe observable patterns in mechanical waves.

Resources will be used to describe properties of electromagnetic waves (i.e., waves that do not require a medium for the energy to flow through), such as light. Concepts covered include that light can only be seen if an object emits its own light or when light from a light emitting source or is reflected off an object into the eye of the viewer.
